Christmas 2009

Here are a few pictures from our Christmas. We started on the 23rd opening presents because we thought Aaron would be crazy busy with services the 24th, 25th, then regular weekend services. It turned out the weather caused a few of the services to be canceled so we actually got to spend the holiday together as a family. It was nice and relaxing. Gabe had a great time playing with all of his new toys.

'twas 2 nights before Christmas

Tonight Andrew was demonstrating his mad crawling skills! Well he doesn't actually crawl but he sort of slithers and slides along the ground quite quickly if he has a goal in mind. I have some video I can post if I ever get around to it. In the mean time here is his cute little self tonight in Gabe's room.

My little buddy Gabe after we slathered some Aquaphilic all over his face! His cheeks get so dry and this stuff really helps.

Andrew got put on antibiotics today and back on the breathing treatments like he was on before. I don't think he feels all that sick but at least is getting treated for his nasty cough. He sounds like an old man with COPD when he coughs and wheezes.

Gabe is finally feeling better but still has his moments of crankiness. He went to daycare today and had a good time seeing his buddies again.

Sick and Tired

SICK:
Doctor visit on Wed... just a virus come back if not better in a week or if develops a high fever. Sunday = high fever = trip to the ER (no walk in clinics anywhere near Humboldt) = a strange experience = but I got the antibiotics I wanted for him

Hey he only puked twice today!

When I asked him what made his tummy hurt he said "My puke did"!

Poor guy!

TIRED:

The work begins...

Our contractor has started tearing apart "the weird room" in order to make it non-weird.

If you haven't been in my house here is a short description of the weird room:
'a former patio between 2 bedrooms that is now enclosed but not insulated or finished in any way'. And it is like a basement in that the only outer wall is about 8 to 10 feet below ground.'

The cedar paneling is removed:

The windows and sliding doors will also be removed. Drywall will go up as well as a ceiling, floor, closet, 2 doors, electrical, and heating.

Here is a list of things we have done to the house since we bought it in June of 2007:
  • pressure washed the cedar exterior
  • tar coated the driveway (twice)
  • new flooring in both bathrooms and laundry room
  • painted both shower/tubs
  • 2 new toilets, sinks, counters in bathroom
  • new counters in kitchen and laundry room
  • new curtains/blinds in den, kitchen, living room
  • painted both bathrooms, laundry room, dining room, living room
  • refinished 3 closet doors
  • removed rock and put in pavers in atrium (approx. 3,000 pounds of pavers)
  • made 2 flower gardens
  • redid a rock garden
  • new furnace in 2008
  • custom made shelves in laundry room
  • new light fixtures in bathroom, hallways, dining room
  • custom work bench and shelving in garage

Christmasland!

Grandma and Grandpa Flatau made the trek down from Minnesota and helped me take the boys to Christmasland. The Humboldt Kiwanis puts it on (Aaron is a member) and it is so neat! It is an old building filled with a number of different Christmas displays and Santa. Gabe was not afraid of Santa at all and told him about Lightening McQueen and Thomas the Train.

Andrew slept through all the excitement....

Gabe dressed just like Grandpa (Carhart coat, baseball cap, gloves, and hood up). Here they were giving me thumbs up!

Andrew is losing his pants in this picture!

Progress on the Car.....

Here is Aaron's progress on getting Pastor Raether's car free from the snow. These pictures were taken about 7pm tonight.

Blizzard!

We have experienced some crazy Iowa weather the last 2 days! We had a good deal of snow followed by high winds. Aaron took a few pictures today. The car is completely buried (obviously) and Aaron has yet to get it out of the snow!

It is Pastor Raether's car (long story) so we had to take these pics for him so he could see what happens to it when he leaves it with us! The drift you see further out in the picture is over the road. After plows and the huge snowblower went through there was still only a single lane open.

Fun Stuff

We put up Gabe's tree and he loves it!

Uncle Mike and Uncle Jon came to hunt pheasants with Aaron. They all seemed to enjoy each others company!

Here Uncle Mikey cuddles with Andrew..

It doesn't get much cuter than this!

Well I guess Uncle Jon is pretty cute with the baby too!

He was letting Andrew choose the channels!

Almost Crawling....

My little buddy is almost ready to crawl. Check it out!

Happy December!

We have been impressed lately with Gabe's ability to make a huge mess in a matter of minutes. It follows him everywhere he goes, too! I think I'm going to start calling him Pigpen after the character on Charlie Brown.

He has managed to break 2 of these leather ottomans. I guess the hinges and brackets weren't designed to stand up to an almost 3 year old. I thought we would have gotten better quality for almost 500 bucks though!

In spite of the messes he can make and tantrums he can throw he is still the joy of my life (along with Andrew of course)! He makes me laugh by quoting the Cars movie all day long.... "Pit stop!", "get real gone", "a rookie wins the piston cup", "boy, you in a heap of trouble". And tonight he brought me a tower of blocks he built and said "mom I brought you a party! Eat it now!"

Andrew got to sit in his high chair for the first time a few nights ago. He has enjoyed it and it usually buys me a few minutes of free hands to get something done. He has eaten some rice cereal there and does pretty well (better than in the bumbo).

He is very close to crawling. I think within the next few weeks he will be quite mobile. It's crazy to me because he's not even 6 months old.

Bath & Sleep

Andrew had a fabulous time taking a bath with Gabe. He laughed a whole bunch when Gabe would splash!

Gabe crashed tonight while he was watching a movie. I checked on him and this is what I found.

Hello!

First of all I must dedicate this post to our little buddy Gus who turned 2 years old today!! Happy birthday Gus! You can see his adorable little face here: http://rossandallison.blogspot.com/

Based on the following picture you can now call me Betty. Short for Betty Crocker. That's right I made homemade pot pie. It was delicious!

Gabe is very serious when watching his favorite video...

Andrew being his cute bald self. I love this little man!
